The Bruins officially announced that center Marc Savard has signed a seven-year contract extension that runs through the 2016-17 season.

Savard, 32, signed with the Bruins as a free agent in 2006 and has led the team in scoring each of the last three seasons. He was also the top scorer in the postseason each of the last two seasons. Savard has twice finished in the league’s top ten in scoring with 95+ points and has played in two consecutive NHL All-Star Games.

According to TSN.ca, the deal is worth an average of $4.2 million per year.

The 5-10, 191-pound center appeared in every game for the Bruins last year and had 25 goals and 63 assists in 82 regular season games. He also had six goals and seven assists in 11 postseason games.

Savard was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the fourth round of the 1995 NHL Draft.

Savard missed several weeks this season with a broken bone in his foot. In 11 games this year, he has four goals and six assists.

In 752 career NHL games, Savard has 199 goals and 474 assists for 673 points.
