First game played at Fenway
Avon Old Farms and Taft School, two prep schools from Connecticut, played the first hockey game on the Fenway Park ice this morning.
According to the Hartford Courant, two parents who wished to remain anonymous put up the $30,000 fee necessary for the game to be played there. The rink, assembled for the NHL's Winter Classic on Jan. 1 between the Bruins and Flyers, is available for rent at a cost of $10,000 per hour.
Former Bruin Cam Neely dropped the puck. The Courant said the teams waited outside the park wearing all their gear except skates, then played for about two hours.
