Tout fini here at RBC: Canes, 5, Bruins 1.
Bruns now 1-7-1 in their last eight games. Need to find an answer fast.

Canes 5, Bruins 1 -- Krejci, 9 (Wheeler, Morris), PPG, 8:56. Krejci jumps to net for easy pot after Wheeler nails Ward with short shot from low in left circle.

Canes 5, Bruins 0 -- Larose, 3 (Sutter), 0:15. Quick wrist from slot off Sutter pass from right wing. Wideman falls to a minus-4, Hunwick to minus-3.

A look at the stat sheet after two periods:

Dennis Wideman has logged another minus -3, as he did in Monday's loss to the Senators at the Garden. Entering the third period, he is a team-worst minus-11 this
season.

The Bruiins attempted 42 shots, landed only 17, in the first 40 minutes. The Canes landed 17 of 30.

Second period in the books. Canes 4, Bruins 0. Shots even for the day, 17-17. Bruins with very little offensive presence, overall energy and jump minimal. Anyone seen this picture?

After giving up four goals on 15 shots, Thomas yields net to Rask.

Canes 4, Bruins 0 -- Sutter, 12 (Whitney, Wallin), 11:02. Finishes off at left post after dazzling Whitney up left side and down slot, where he shifts around Chara and then passes by Wideman.

Canes 3, Bruins 0 -- Jokinen, 15 (Pitkanen, Cullen), 6:29. Three seconds after Hunwick penalty expires, Pitkanen fires cross slot pass from left cirlce that Jokinen pots with a forehander into open right side.

Canes 2, Bruins 0 -- Staal, 15 (Jokinen, Pitkanen), PPG, 4:26. Trails in and pots loose puck from top of crease after Jokinen draws two-an attention in the slot. Goals comes with delayed call on Hunwick for triipping.

Penalty --Bergeron, tripping, 3:44.

End of first period: Canes 1, Bruins 0. Carolina with 10-8 shot edge.

Mark Recchi playing career game No. 1,541, slotting him 10th all time among NHLers. He is centering a line today with Danny Paille and Patrice Bergeron his wingers. Bergeron still unable to take faceoffs, his right thumb still recovering from a fracture.

About a minute into a Canes power play, referee Dan ''Roadblock'' O'Rourke gets tangled up with a couple of players along the boards in Boston's end. Same ref who choked Dennis Wideman off a play at the Garden last Monday. Should trade his whistle for a stiick.

Canes go on power play at 9:46 when Chara charged for interference.

Canes 1, Bruins 0 -- Whitney,. 16 (Jokinen), 7:50 -- Krejci, after making pretty pass moments before in Carolina's end, coughs up puck in his own end, leading to Whitney's doorstep strike.

Decent attempt by Recchi from slot at 5:30. Bruins with 3-0 shooting advantage

RALEIGH  --  Just about underway here here at the RBC Center.

As reported here a short time ago, Tim Thomas will start in the Boston net.

Adam McQuaid, summoned here in case of injury, is not suited up.  Shawn Thornton, who suffered a minor leg injury on Saturday, is in uniform, leaving McQuaid as the odd man out.  McQuaid likely will be returned to Providence soon after the Bruins arrive at Hanscom Field (Bedford) later this evening.
