The Bruins will be one of six NHL teams to open next season in Europe, the team officially announced Tuesday.

The Bruins will face the Phoenix Coyotes Oct. 9 at O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic, as part of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere and NHL Face-Off.

The Globe's Fluto Shinzawa reported the news in January.

It will be the first time the Bruins have played in Europe since the 1958-59 season, when the Bruins and New York Rangers went on a 10-city European tour that included 23 games in places such as London, Geneva, Paris, Antwerp, Zurich, Berlin and Vienna.

The other teams involved in next season's overseas openers are the Carolina Hurricanes,
Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, and San Jose Sharks.

The Bruins have two players of Czech descent -- David Krejci, who will represent the Czech Republic in the Olympics, and Vladimir Sobotka. Team captain Zdeno Chara and Miroslav Satan are from nearby Slovakia.
