PHILADELPHIA -- Last night, on the same day that Marc Savard got word that his season is most likely over, the Bruins appeared to pull it together for their injured teammate.

After Jeff Carter scored a game-tying power-play goal at 0:44 of the second period, the Bruins exploded for three straight strikes to chase starting netminder Michael Leighton from the crease. In the third period, Marco Sturm added a goal on backup goalie Brian Boucher as the Bruins claimed a 5-1 win over the Flyers at the Wachovia Center.

The Bruins kicked off their three-goal second-period outburst when Dennis Seidenberg joined the rush and carried the puck down the right wing. Seidenberg spotted a seam in the slot and dished the puck to Patrice Bergeron. In turn, Bergeron gave the puck to an in-stride Mark Recchi. The ex-Flyer roofed the puck over Leighton at 4:37 to make it a 2-1 game.

Matt Hunwick helped the Bruins gain a two-goal lead when he put a shot on net from the left point. Sturm got a piece of Hunwick's shot, and Bergeron completed the sequence by burying the rebound at 10:30.

Forty-six seconds later, the Bruins saw the last of Leighton. With the Flyers caught up ice, Blake Wheeler carried the puck down the left wing, took his time, and saw Michael Ryder cutting through the slot. Ryder took Wheeler's feed, then sent a backhand pass across the slot to David Krejci, who flipped the puck into an open net at 11:16 of the second.

The Bruins scored the only goal of the first period. After creating a Philadelphia turnover in the defensive zone, Krejci carried the puck the other way, then flipped a pass to Wheeler. The left wing pulled the puck to his backhand and elevated a shot over Leighton under the crossbar.

Tuukka Rask made a show-stopping first-period save to keep the game scoreless. After Claude Giroux found Arron Asham at the far post, Rask slid across his crease to snatch the forward's shot at 10:43.
