ATLANTA -- At 16:55 of last night's second period, when the Thrashers were down by two goals, Colby Armstrong could have slashed Boston's lead in half.

Armstrong had been awarded a penalty shot after Dennis Wideman was forced to hook the forward to prevent a point-blank chance. But Tuukka Rask calmly got his glove in front of Armstrong's forehand bid to keep the Bruins' 2-0 advantage intact.

Rask's timely save turned into a two-goal swing. Instead of holding onto a 2-1 edge heading into the third, the Bruins enjoyed a three-goal cushion after 40 minutes.
With 3.5 ticks remaining in the second, Miroslav Satan tipped a Zdeno Chara shot past Johan Hedberg to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead. Then at 1:46 of the third period, Steve Begin sealed the 4-0 win when he tapped in the rebound of a Milan Lucic shot.

Both teams came out with good legs and high energy in the first period, recognizing the importance of last night's game. At the start of the night, Atlanta trailed eighth-place Boston by only one point.

But the Bruins struck first with the opening goal. David Krejci, stickhandling behind the Atlanta net, shook off the check of Zach Bogosian and sent a pass to Michael Ryder. The right wing walked the puck out front and put a shot on goal that Hedberg stopped. But Krejci, having slipped away from Bogosian, found the loose puck and found the back of the net at 9:25.

The Bruins doubled their lead at 7:59 of the second period. Krejci sent a cross-ice pass to Lucic, who snapped a wrist shot over Hedberg's glove to make it a 2-0 game.

Approximately three minutes into the night, the Bruins lost Vladimir Sobotka because of a head injury. The center was belted into the wall by Evgeny Artyukhin. Sobotka took his time getting to his skates, then glided slowly to the bench. After several minutes of treatment by trainer Don DelNegro, Sobotka retired to the dressing room.
