Even though they knew deals would go down today, the Bruins expressed disappointment in saying goodbye this morning to Derek Morris and Byron Bitz, two well-liked and respected players in the dressing room.

"It's always the toughest part of the business, losing great guys and great teammates," Marco Sturm said. "Both are really great. Mo, he only stayed here for a little bit. But it's always sad to see that."

Shawn Thornton, who hosted Bitz and his wife at his downtown home earlier this season while the couple looked for a home, spoke with his former roommate briefly before practice.

"I talked to him for literally two seconds before we went on the ice," Thornton said. "We were going out at 11:45. I saw him at 11:44. I'll talk to him a little bit later. He hasn't been in the lineup much here lately. Hopefully he'll get a chance to play down there and be good for him. I expect big things from him. He's a good player. I'm sure it's for the best."
