The Bruins will oppose the Buffalo Sabres in Round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the best-of-seven series expected to begin either Wednesday or Thursday at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo.

Following Boston's 4-3 shootout victory over the Caps earlier today in Washington, the Bruins had to wait to learn their playoff partner when the Sabres and New Jersey Devils faced off later in the afternoon. Depending on the outcome of that game, the Bruins would be left with one or the other for the first round.

With three seconds remaining in regulation, Jamie Langenbrunner knocked home a power-play goal to give the Devils a 2-1 victory. The victory left the Devils lodged in second with 103 points. The Sabres remained in third with 100 points.

The Bruins, who finished sixth with 91 points, take on the Sabres, the No. 3 seed.
