On Oct. 19, having been recalled from Providence the day before, Brad Marchand was sporting a bruise on his face, courtesy of a tangle with Portland tough guy Cody McCormick the previous afternoon.

On Oct. 18, during the third period of Providence's game against Portland, McCormick, after hearing enough of Marchand's chirping, stepped off the bench and dropped him with a cross-check. Naturally, a line brawl broke out, with Vladimir Sobotka also getting into the mix. McCormick was called for cross-checking, instigating, fighting, a misconduct, and a game misconduct (29 total PIMs).

"That point of the game, he was pretty upset," Marchand recalled. "We were coming off the ice and he came off the bench and gave me a cross-check up high. Vladdy jumped him. I jumped him. Just a big line brawl."
