Thomas Vanek skated this morning and will be a game-time decision tonight, according to Sabres coach Lindy Ruff. Vanek missed Game 3 because of an injured left leg.

"It felt good," Vanek said. "It's a good sign. It's a good step for myself."

Vanek, injured in Game 2 after getting tangled up with Johnny Boychuk, said he hoped to play on Monday but wasn't able to go.

"It's not about just playing," Vanek said. "It's about helping your teammates out. You don't want to go out there just to be out there and disappoint them."

Matt Ellis will not play. Cody McCormick will replace Ellis.

"He's a guy that's played 16-20 minutes a game down there," said Ruff. "He's a big body that can get to the front of the net. I think he can win battles down low. Without [Jochen] Hecht, without Vanek, without some bigger bodies, some of the battles have gone the other way. I think a big guy that will be able to win some battles will be important for us."
