From start to finish
Upon the suggestion of reader Tony D., here are the lineups from Game 1 of the regular season and Game 7 of the second round. This should provide a good look at some of the changes the Bruins went through in 2009-10.
First, Game 1, when the Bruins dropped a 4-1 decision to Washington at TD Garden:
Milan Lucic | Marc Savard | Marco Sturm |
Blake Wheeler | David Krejci | Michael Ryder |
Mark Recchi | Patrice Bergeron | Chuck Kobasew |
Shawn Thornton | Steve Begin | Byron Bitz |
Zdeno Chara | Derek Morris |
Andrew Ference | Dennis Wideman |
Mark Stuart | Matt Hunwick |
Tim Thomas |
Tuukka Rask |
Now, Game 7, which the Bruins lost by a 4-3 score to Philadelphia at the Garden after blowing a 3-0 lead:
Blake Wheeler | Patrice Bergeron | Mark Recchi |
Milan Lucic | Marc Savard | Miroslav Satan |
Daniel Paille | Vladimir Sobotka | Michael Ryder |
Steve Begin | Trent Whitfield | Shawn Thornton |
Zdeno Chara | Johnny Boychuk |
Mark Stuart | Dennis Wideman |
Matt Hunwick | Andrew Ference |
Tuukka Rask |
Tim Thomas |
Some of the major alterations:
* Derek Morris, Chuck Kobasew, and Byron Bitz were shipped out. Daniel Paille was acquired. Miroslav Satan was signed as a free agent.
* Tuukka Rask replaced Tim Thomas as the No. 1 goalie.
* Patrice Bergeron and Mark Recchi were projected to be a matchup duo who could also provide offense. But because of David Krejci's loss and because Marc Savard had yet to find his offensive touch, the Bruins looked to Bergeron and Recchi for more scoring punch than first expected.
* Johnny Boychuk, after being a healthy scratch early, established himself as a top-four defenseman.
