Shawn Thornton, the only player not to participate in the morning skate today, exercised his option to stay off, said Claude Julien.

"There shouldn't be any questions on whether he'll be in tonight," Julien said. "He's fine."

If Thornton is available, he will skate on the fourth line with Steve Begin and Trent Whitfield. Brad Marchand would then be the healthy scratch.

"He's one of those guys that's got experience," Claude Julien said of Whitfield. "He's been around. He brings grit. He can certainly kill penalties."
