Marco Sturm has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee that will knock him out for the rest of the year. Sturm suffered the injury during yesterday's opening shift after attempting to throw a check on Matt Carle.
Sturm will undergo surgery in 4-6 weeks. Recovery is expected to take six months.
Last year, Sturm tore the ACL and meniscus in his left knee on Dec. 18 against Toronto. Because of swelling in the knee, Sturm didn't undergo surgery until Jan. 13, nearly a month after the injury.
"It's unfortunate news for our hockey club and certainly for him," said Julien, "He battled through a major injury last year and was really looking forward to these playoffs."
It's expected that Shawn Thornton, a healthy scratch in Game 1, will re-enter the lineup tomorrow. Here's how the Bruins could line up:
* Thornton, Brad Marchand, Trent Whitfield, Mark Stuart, Andy Wozniewski, Andrew Bodnarchuk, Jeff Penner, Tim Thomas, and Dany Sabourin were the only players to hit the ice today.
