Marc Savard, competing in the Canadian Men's Mid-Amateur Championship this week at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Quebec, didn't have the best first day on the course yesterday. Despite kicking things off with a birdie on the par-5 first hole, Savard shot a 7-over 78, 11 behind first-day leader Dave Bunker.

The left-shot Savard is considered one of the NHL's best golfers. Savard has talked about a golf career once he retires from hockey. When he's in Boston, Savard is a member at Quincy's Granite Links.

Here's the Ottawa Citizen on Savard's first day.
