MONTREAL -- Patrice Bergeron scored two goals, Nathan Horton recorded his first Boston strike, and Tuukka Rask stopped 36 shots as the Bruins opened the preseason with a 4-2 win over Montreal before 21,273 at the Bell Centre.

* Heck of a debut for Jordan Caron, who has his sights set on opening the season as the Bruins' No. 3 right wing. Caron earned Claude Julien's praise for protecting the puck, being responsible defensively, and never getting himself in trouble.

* Tyler Seguin said he felt nervous in the first period. Seguin tried to stickhandle through a crowd several times. In the second and third periods, Seguin moved to left wing.

* Julien said it was a good effort at center for Blake Wheeler. The third-year pro said the biggest difference between center and wing is the skating.

* Don't think we'll be seeing Dennis Seidenberg and Matt Hunwick paired very often this season. The two were toxic in their own end.

All done at the Bell Centre. Bruins, 4-2.

14:16 3d period: Bruins 4-2
Not a bad night for Ryan Spooner. Not playing like a rookie.

7:12 3d period: Bruins 4-2
Bruins continue to run around in their own zone. Montreal with a 31-12 shot advantage.

3:41 3d period: Bruins 4-2
Daniel Paille on PK with Patrice Bergeron. Gregory Campbell with Jeremy Reich.

20:00 2d period: Bruins 4-2
Canadiens get back into the game with some decent goaltending from Curtis Sanford -- anybody would have looked good following Carey Price -- and two second-period goals. Montreal with a 21-11 shot advantage through 40 minutes.

19:20 2d period: Bruins 4-2
With Matt Hunwick in the box for delay of game, Tomas Plekanec goes in on Tuukka Rask and beats the netminder for a PPG. Nice backhand dish from Mike Cammalleri.

12:04 2d period: Bruins 4-1
Tomas Plekanec feeds Maxim Lapierre for a SH goal. No chance for Tuukka Rask.

11:55 2d period: Bruins 4-0
Curtis Sanford stops Johnny Boychuk's PP one-timer. Huge cheer.

10:01 2d period: Bruins 4-0
Adam McQuaid vs. Andrew Conboy. As Conboy's going down, McQuaid catches him with a straight right, then adds a few more as they tumble to the ice.

10:00 2d period: Bruins 4-0
Cheers from the Bell Centre crowd as Curtis Sanford replaces Carey Price. Not the way Price (8.00 GAA, .556 save percentage) wants to kick off 2010-11.

7:25 2d period: Bruins 4-0
Nice backcheck by Jordan Caron to apply pressure on his man in the Boston end. Caron the most impressive rookie on the ice so far.

3:00 2d period: Bruins 4-0
Tuukka Rask robs Benoit Pouliot with a pad stop.

2:17 2d period: Bruins 4-0
On the PK, Patrice Bergeron picks off a Jaroslav Spacek clearing pass. Then goes one-on-one with Carey Price, fakes him into Sherbrooke with some dekes, and tucks in his second goal.

0:45 2d period: Bruins 3-0
Blake Wheeler centering Daniel Paille and Jordan Caron.

0:00 2d period: Bruins 3-0
Line changes, as Patrice Bergeron centers Tyler Seguin and Mark Recchi to start the second.

20:00 1st period: Bruins 3-0
And thus ends a 20-minute stretch not to Carey Price's liking (three goals on six shots). Better play by the Boston forwards than their defensemen, who struggled getting pucks out and eluding the Montreal forecheck. Good stuff from Jordan Caron -- strong, heavy on the puck, eager to hit. Brian McGrattan might be paying Andrew Conboy a visit in the second for his hit on Adam McQuaid.

16:57 1st period: Bruins 3-0
Adam McQuaid doesn't care for a hit along the boards by Andrew Conboy. Penalty to Conboy.

15:20 1st period: Bruins 3-0
Patrice Bergeron dangles through the defense and tucks a backhander past Carey Price. Pierre Gauthier asking for do-over with St. Louis.

13:32 1st period: Bruins 2-0
Johnny Boychuk hammers a one-timer past Carey Price on the power play. Helpers to Matt Bartkowski and Tyler Seguin. Also on PP1: Patrice Bergeron and Mark Recchi. That's two goals on four shots.

10:15 1st period: Bruins 1-0
Montreal with a 9-3 shot advantage. Canadiens using their speed up front for regular offensive flurries.

6:37 1st period: Bruins 1-0
Tuukka Rask stops Tomas Plekanec on the break. Rask looks sharp so far. Carey Price does not.

1:33 1st period: Bruins 1-0
Nathan Horton whips a harmless-looking wrist shot over Carey Price. Where's that Halak guy?

0:59 1st period: 0-0
Tuukka Rask slams the door shut on Aaron Palushaj.

0:42 1st period: 0-0
Tyler Seguin steps on for his first shift.
