Blake Wheeler arrived in town yesterday and dropped by Ristuccia Arena to say hello to the smaller-than-usual Wilmington gathering. The big left wing, who'll be entering his third pro season, projects to skate alongside old linemates David Krejci and Michael Ryder.
"The biggest thing for is just playing with more of an edge, a little more physical, things like that," said Wheeler. "If I can bring that part of my game to another level, it will definitely help me get to that next level. For me historically, whenever I play that way, the offensive numbers seem to go up. I'm not so much worried about that aspect. I know I can produce and score goals. But as long as I make other parts of my game better, those things will also get better as well."
Among the Bruins, Wheeler had one of the busier summers. He got married, spent his honeymoon in Hawaii, then traveled to Toronto for his arbitration hearing. Wheeler was given a one-year, $2.2 million arbitration award.
