In all likelihood, Old Man Dupont did irreparable damage to the cuisine corner of the Globe's hockey operations department when he opted for American fast-food pizza during his Prague tour.

So to improve the dining karma around here, two visits to Manhattan were required, which will hopefully be enough damage control. Last night, made my first of what should be many stops at 5 Napkin Burger on the Upper West Side. Packed at 9:30 p.m. But it's easy to see why. Fresh and juicy burger, accompanied by crisp, thin, well-seasoned fries.

This afternoon, following a ride from Newark Penn Station to NYC Penn Station and the ensuing subway jaunts to Midtown, did my usual stop at Ess-A-Bagel for their top-notch goods. Can't beat the turkey club sandwich on a plain bagel. Turkey slices were piled higher than the Empire State Building. Got a dozen to go just in case my rental gets a flat on the drive home tonight and I need to swap out a tire for a sesame bagel. Then there was a visit to Leonidas Chocolates for a box of sweet stuff. For the wife. Really. I swear.
