What more can you say about Tim Thomas? The 36-year-old stopped 29 shots to earn his third shutout of the season. And he said he didn't even feel as good as he did against Washington.

"The effort in front of me was great," Thomas said. "My D are doing an incredible job. Blocking shots when needed, clearing rebounds when needed."

* Dennis Seidenberg needed one stitch to close a cut near his left eyebrow. After trading a few shots with Chris Neil, Seidenberg engaged with the Ottawa strongman, who opened up the cut. You can bet that Shawn Thornton will address the issue next time the two teams play.

* Claude Julien said he wanted to see what the chemistry on the second and third lines would be by flip-flopping Mark Recchi and Blake Wheeler. Julien was pleased with how both lines performed after the switch.
