Star turn for Thomas
Surprise, surprise -- Tim Thomas has been named the NHL's first star of the week.
Thomas posted back-to-back shutouts. He first stopped 20 shots in a 2-0 win over Toronto last Thursday. Two nights ago, Thomas turned aside all 29 pucks that came his way in the Bruins' 4-0 win over Ottawa.
Thomas is now 6-0-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .984 save percentage.
"Not of this nature," Claude Julien said when asked if he'd ever seen a goalie on such a streak. "We're talking about 0.5 [GAA]. That's pretty special. It's a matter of riding it. Simple as that. You hopefully see a goaltender keep doing that for you as long as he can. It's a long year. When those situations come about, you take advantage of it. Simple as that."
