After dropping four of their last five games, the Bruins needed a two-point effort against the Flyers.

"I like the way our guys showed up tonight," coach Claude Julien said. "For us, it was an important win."

The hero was Tim Thomas, who stopped 41 shots. In the second period, Thomas turned aside Scott Hartnell's penalty shot.

"We met a goalie that stops everything," said Hartnell. "Backdoors, breakaways, some great chances in front. He's covering up the rebounds. It's tough to beat a goalie like that. I think we had the chances. We just couldn't put them in the net."

* Milan Lucic, scuffling of late, snapped out of his slump. Lucic helped set up Patrice Bergeron's power-play goal with a strong rush to the net. Lucic scored an empty-netter in the third. Lucic said he was chirped by Jody Shelley, but Julien didn't want him fighting the Philly tough guy. Instead, Shawn Thornton battled Shelley in the second. "Certainly we know he's tough," Julien said of Lucic. "But sometimes the tradeoffs aren't always the greatest. I don't think I would want to trade Lucic for Shelley in the penalty box for five minutes. I made sure I was clear with that. If he wanted to take somebody on, he'll take somebody on that plays the same kind of role."
