ATLANTA -- After 65 minutes of high-paced hockey tonight at Philips Arena didn't produce a winner, the Bruins and Thrashers advanced to the shootout.

In the shootout, Tim Stapleton and Bryan Little solved Tim Thomas. At the other end, Ondrej Pavelec turned back Tyler Seguin and Blake Wheeler to backstop the Thrashers to a 3-2 shootout win.

The Bruins broke a 1-1 tie in the second period. Wheeler took a pass from David Krejci, flew into the offensive zone, and beat Pavelec with a fast-moving wrist shot at 0:55. Pavelec looked to be off his angle on Wheeler's shot.

But the lead went goodbye after Nathan Horton wiped out a power play. Stapleton had been in the box for goaltender interference after he barreled over Tim Thomas. That penalty was negated when Horton was called for tripping Brent Sopel. After Stapleton's penalty expired, Enstrom scored another power-play goal. This time, with Andrew Ladd setting a screen on Thomas, Enstrom buried a shot from the left point at 9:21.

Seguin left the game for several minutes in the second after he was creamed by Freddy Modin and Jim Slater in the corner. Seguin, slow to his skates, went to the dressing room but returned later in the period.

The Thrashers got on the scoreboard first in the opening period after Marc Savard was sent off for slashing. With traffic in front of Thomas, Enstrom floated a shot from the left point that beat the netminder at 3:23. The puck might have skimmed off Adam McQuaid en route to the back of the net.

The Bruins answered with their own first-period goal. Patrice Bergeron carried the puck into the offensive zone with speed and snapped a backhander on goal that dribbled through Pavelec. It was a rare softie for Pavelec, one of the NHL's sharpest goalies this year.

Milan Lucic was expecting fireworks following his sucker punch of Freddy Meyer last week. Tough guy Eric Boulton gave Lucic a whack early in the first, but it didn't turn into a confrontation.

5:00 OT: 2-2
Shootout time. Sixty-five minutes of breathless action. Great stuff.

4:17 OT: 2-2
Tobias Enstrom bids for the hat trick. Tim Thomas dives to keep the puck out.

20:00 3d period: 2-2
Overtime. Bruins get point they deserve. But more deserving of two than Atlanta.

14:22 3d period: 2-2
Tripping on Jim Slater. Critical PP coming up.

3:26 3d period: 2-2
Ondrej Pavelec recovers and squares up to stop Nathan Horton's point-blank shot.

2:30 3d period: 2-2
Ondrej Pavelec standing tall amid a power-play assault.

20:00 2d period: 2-2
Good action late in the second. Should continue into the third.

17:00 2d period: 2-2
Sharp glove save by Ondrej Pavelec on Michael Ryder. The Ryder line continues to create scoring chances.

14:00 2d period: 2-2
Strong shift by the first line. Maybe they can build off it.

12:54 2d period: 2-2
Shot by Milan Lucic has Ondrej Pavelec looking behind him. Nice setup by Steven Kampfer. Bruins need to get more pucks on Pavelec.

11:32 2d period: 2-2
Sparks between Daniel Paille and Dustin Byfuglien. Paille didn't like a late bump by Byfuglien and went back at the big defenseman. Both go off. Bruins will take that tradeoff.

9:21 2d period: 2-2
Tobias Enstrom with another PPG through traffic. Good screen by Andrew Ladd. That's two PPGs with Nathan Horton and Marc Savard in the box.

7:38 2d period: Bruins 2-1
Nathan Horton wipes out a power play by tripping Brent Sopel. Not exactly bounceback games from the benched boys so far.

6:32 2d period: Bruins 2-1
Tim Stapleton barrels over Tim Thomas. Penalty on Stapleton. Thomas OK.

5:32 2d period: Bruins 2-1
Tyler Seguin returns to the bench.

2:48 2d period: Bruins 2-1
Tyler Seguin gets creamed by Jim Slater and Freddy Modin in the defensive zone. Seguin to the room.

0:55 2d period: Bruins 2-1
Blake Wheeler flies into the zone and beats Ondrej Pavelec with a wrister. One of Wheeler's best games so far.

20:00 1st period: 1-1
Very good first period by the Bruins. Getting pucks deep and grinding down the Thrashers. Not much from the Savard line, though. Surprised the Thrashers didn't come after Milan Lucic.

14:09 1st period: 1-1
Patrice Bergeron backhands the puck through Ondrej Pavelec. Softie by Pavelec.

12:05 1st period: Thrashers 1-0
Excellent shift by the Krejci line. Playing with loads of confidence.

6:46 1st period: Thrashers 1-0
Heavy shift by Patrice Bergeron's line. Brad Marchand looks fine with the skilled players.

3:23 1st period: Thrashers 1-0
Tobias Enstrom's point shot appears to skim off Adam McQuaid and beat Tim Thomas.

2:03 1st period: 0-0
Marc Savard off to a roaring start. Off for slashing.

0:00 1st period: 0-0
Gregory Campbell is out. Daniel Paille is in. No Nathan Horton rematch with Evander Kane, as the Atlanta forward is out with an undisclosed injury.
