The Bruins have placed Trent Whitfield on waivers. Whitfield has missed the entire 2010-11 season because of a ruptured Achilles' tendon. He has been on long-term injured reserve.

If Whitfield clears waivers, he will be assigned to Providence, where he served as captain last year. He can be picked up for a $3,375 waiver claim before tomorrow's noon deadline.
