Kaberle trade official
There is a chance that Kaberle dresses for the Bruins tonight against Ottawa. Kaberle will wear No. 12 for his new club. Kaberle's No. 15 is not available in Boston. It is retired in honor of Milt Schmidt.
“On behalf of our entire organization I would like to thank Tomas for all of his many outstanding contributions to the Toronto Maple Leafs on the ice, and in the community," Toronto GM Brian Burke said in a release. "He has been a model citizen and it’s never easy to trade a player that has conducted himself as professionally as Tomas has for the past 13 years.”
Kaberle is the puck-moving defenseman the Bruins have gone without since trading Dennis Wideman to Florida. In 58 games, Kaberle has three goals and 35 assists while averaging 22:28 of ice time per outing. Of Kaberle's 35 helpers, 22 have come on the power play, where his presence will be most welcome. Kaberle projects to man the point on the No. 1 power-play unit, replacing Mark Recchi.
The deal was contingent on the Bruins clearing space. They did so by packaging Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart to Atlanta for Rich Peverley and Boris Valabik. Peverley will not play tonight. Valabik will report to Providence tomorrow.
