Globe staffer Fluto Shinzawa reports from Vancouver that star rookie Bruins winger Brad Marchand was helped off the ice after taking a shot off his right foot during the club's late-morning workout today.

According to Shinzawa, watching from the stands at Pacific Coliseum, Marchand departed well ahead of the end of the workout and did not return to the ice.

Update: According to Shinzawa, who is about to leave the rink just prior to 4 p.m., EDT, Marchand reports that the foot is only sore and that he should be able to play tomorrow night. File under: ''Bullet, dodged.''

It was a shot by Marchand's center, Patrice Bergeron, that knocked him out of commission for the day.

The Bruins play the Canucks tomorrow night. If Marchand is not available, it would mean Danny Paille, scratched from Tuesday's game in Calgary, would make his return to the lineup.
