At 12:36 of tonight's second period, six Bruins were stuffed into the penalty box, creating a clown-car effect that was the result of an every-man-in tussle. With the Bruins up, 5-3, the fireworks ignited when Brad Marchand decked James Wisniewski into the end boards. That brought Brian Gionta barreling in to flatten Marchand, which ultimately led to Tim Thomas and Carey Price squaring off.

"It was getting into an outnumbered situation," said Thomas, called to duty when Price left his crease to join the jostling. "That's what I was thinking when I was getting down there. He was more than willing to fight. I had this big old plan. I was going to grab his right, then I was going to throw lefts, because I know he's bigger and taller than me and has the reach on me. I thought I could do a better job of throwing lefts than him. When we went to grab, he got a good hold of my right arm and I got nothing. So then I was like, 'Now what do I do?' He's got a big right cocked and ready to come."

With Brent Johnson's recent one-punch flooring of Rick DiPietro no doubt fresh in each fighter's mind, the scrap came to a quick end after some brief grappling. But the Thomas-Price dustup highlighted a night of hate that saw the Bruins score an 8-6 win over the Canadiens. Milan Lucic and Michael Ryder scored two goals to lead the attack. Late in the third, another all-out brawl broke out, although both goalies stayed out of the fracas.

The Bruins scored twice in the first, four in the second, and two in the third.

The Bruins scored twice in a 12-second span in the first. Marchand kickstarted the offense by digging the puck off the wall in the defensive zone and sending a cross-ice pass to Mark Recchi. After Recchi hustled through the neutral zone and charged over the offensive blue line, the right wing dropped a pass to Patrice Bergeron in the slot. Meanwhile, Marchand had been sprinting up the ice to join the rush. As Marchand gained net-front position, Bergeron fed him with a pass. Marchand tucked the puck behind Price at 13:16, giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

Twelve seconds later, the Bruins struck again. P.K. Subban lost an edge and coughed up the puck to Dennis Seidenberg in the neutral zone. Seidenberg found Nathan Horton, who flung a shot on goal that glanced off Price and popped into the air. Subban tried to bat the puck away but missed. Seidenberg jumped into the play, found the rebound, and hit the back of the net at 13:28.

There were some fireworks at the end of the first. During a Boston power play, Price cross-checked Lucic twice. Lucic responded by popping Price twice, which drew a crowd of Canadiens. Lucic was called for a roughing double minor, while Price was tagged with a two-minute roughing call.

19:19 3d period: Bruins 8-5
More hate. Andrew Ference vs. Travis Moen, which triggers Johnny Boychuk hammering Jaroslav Spacek, and Gregory Campbell whaling away on Tom Pyatt. Shawn Thornton gets in a few licks on Roman Hamrlik. Mark Recchi and Tomas Plekanec nearly get into it.

17:06 3d period: Bruins 8-5
More fireworks, again ignited by Nathan Horton and P.K. Subban. David Krejci and Benoit Pouliot square off away from the pileup. Pouliot with the big right hand to send Krejci to the room.

14:54 3d period: Bruins 8-5
Following a slick dish by David Krejci, Nathan Horton with a lights-out goal on Carey Price. What a shot by Horton.

Claude Julien rolling three lines. Gregory Campbell replaces Zach Hamill on No. 3.

10:01 3d period: Bruins 7-5
Michael Ryder's PPG counts this time. Cuts through the slot and goes high on Carey Price. More good work by Brad Marchand to stickhandle up ice from deep in his own zone.

9:18 3d period: Bruins 6-5
Michael Ryder's PPG waved off. Sure looked like Yannick Weber knocked Brad Marchand into Carey Price.

8:06 3d period: Bruins 6-5
Zach Hamill draws an interference call on David Desharnais. Hamill deserving of another look on the third line against Detroit on Friday.

7:06 3d period: Bruins 6-5
Tim Thomas caught leaning the wrong way by a Max Pacioretty PP shot. Good rush by James Wisniewski. Neither goalie having a good night. Stupid penalty by Nathan Horton comes back to bite the Bruins.

0:00 3d period: Bruins 6-4
Carey Price in goal to start the third.

And thus ends one of the nuttier periods at the Garden. Wouldn't be surprised to see old friend Alex Auld start the third.

Milan Lucic whistles a shot through Carey Price. Price looks cooked.

12:48 2d period: Bruins 5-4
David Desharnais, from a bad angle, beats Tim Thomas with the PPG.

12:36 2d period: Bruins 5-3
Equipment littered all over the Garden ice. Sparks start when Brad Marchand hits James Wisniewski. Brian Gionta flies in and decks Marchand. Highlight is Tim Thomas dropping the mitts with Carey Price. Not much of a scrap between the two, but can't get better than a goalie fight.

Carey Price stops Nathan Horton's offspeed shot. But Milan Lucic on the doorstep to jam home the rebound.

11:32 2d period: Bruins 4-3

Yannick Weber hammers a shot through traffic to beat Tim Thomas. Lots of Bruins bodies in front.

9:48 2d period: Bruins 3-2

P.K. Subban blasts an off-wing one-timer that hits off traffic in front and beats Tim Thomas.

During a two-on-one rush, Nathan Horton shoots a close-range puck into Carey Price's chest. Snakebitten. Have liked Horton's jam the last two games.

Roman Hamrlik slow to get off after Brad Marchand checks him into the boards. Hamrlik remains on the bench.

7:55 1st period: 0-0
Johnny Boychuk gets his slapper blocked by Andrei Kostitsyn. Boychuk not getting enough pucks through and on net.

5:40 1st period: 0-0
Interesting to see Johnny Boychuk sliding down to third pairing. Another poor game and Boychuk could sit in favor of Mark Stuart.
