Bruins forward Brad Marchand will have a supplemental disciplinary hearing with the NHL via phone tomorrow, Globe reporter Kevin Paul Dupont has confirmed.

The hearing is believed to be related to Marchand's elbow to the head of Blue Jackets left wing R.J. Umberger last night. Umberger told the Columbus Dispatch he wasn't happy about it.

“I haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard he might have left his feet with an elbow,” Umberger said. “That’s what it felt like . . . You got to think that’s one of the hits we are trying to eliminate whether it’s inadvertent or not.”

There was no penalty assessed on the play, which occurred in the second period.

"From what I remember, the puck was kind of bouncing around the neutral zone," Marchand said. "He kind of stopped and started to go for it. I tried to make contact with him and I tried to him in the back with a shoulder. I saw the replay. It looks like I kind of got him up high. My initial intent was that I was trying to make contact with him."

Because it is a phone hearing, any suspension resulting from it cannot exceed five games.

"Obviously they're high on trying to clean up hits like that and stuff," Marchand said. "There was no call initially on the ice. There were two refs right there. He got up very quickly and he's all right. There was no injury on the play. So that might have a little bit of an impact on it. Just because they're trying to tighten up right now on head hits and stuff, there might be a reaction to it."
