Patrice Bergeron, who suffered a concussion last Friday, took to the TD Garden ice this morning for a solo skate. Claude Julien termed it a "light skate."

"Just a light skate this morning," Julien said. "That's where he's at right now. Light skate on his own."

Julien declined to answer how Bergeron felt after the skate.

"This is something that's just protocol," Julien said of today's step. "He's going through the normal stuff. Today was a light skate on his own."

Depending on how Bergeron felt after today's skate, he could take another spin tomorrow.

* Marc Savard is expected to be in town to attend either tonight's game or Game 2. "He's part of our hockey club," Julien said. "He's always welcome here. I know he's trying to get over a concussion that's really set him back. We've given him that space and time. Being around his family is a good way to help yourself through that. He's always been welcome here to see the doctors or if he wants to come around the team."

* Adam McQuaid will play tonight. McQuaid will be paired with Tomas Kaberle. McQuaid hasn't played since Game 2 of the second round, when he suffered a sprained neck at the Wells Fargo Center after falling headfirst into the end boards. "He gives us some size and toughness," Julien said. "They've got some big guys in front with the [Ryan] Malones and the [Vincent] Lecavaliers."
