WILMINGTON -- For the first time during the camp, the players participated in a scrimmage today.

Team Black

Justin Florek-Ryan Spooner-Brian Ferlin
Alex Fallstrom-Ben Sexton-Josh Jooris

Ryan Button-Zach Trotman
Rob O'Gara-David Warsofsky

Mike Hutchinson

Team White

Anthony Camara-Craig Cunningham-Jared Knight
Brett Olson-Alexander Khokhlachev-Tyler Randell

Marc Cantin-Steven Spinell
Tommy Cross-Dougie Hamilton

Zane Gothberg/Lars Volden

Good action for a July scrimmage. There was heavy hitting, with Anthony Camara and Marc Cantin throwing some of the biggest checks. Justin Florek showed a nice release in tight.

"I thought the overall pace, especially when you've only got two lines, was very good," said assistant GM Don Sweeney.

The star of the day was Mike Hutchinson, who was very sound in goal. Hutchinson is ahead of Zane Gothberg and Lars Volden, having played his first year pro last season.

"He's a big kid, moves well, made a nice play with the puck," Sweeney said. "He does have good puck skills."

The campers also went through penalty-shot work and power-play drills.

* Good stuff from David Warsofsky, playing the right side. Warsofsky moves the puck well and isn't afraid to make plays. Warsofsky will need a stable, stay-at-home partner on the left side.

* Ryan Spooner is a stronger skater this year compared to last season. Spooner will never have the size or thickness to go head-to-head with opponents in the danger areas. But as long as he skates well, Spooner should keep defensemen honest and on their heels.

* Tommy Cross and Dougie Hamilton made a nice pairing. Hamilton has some Brent Seabrook in him -- a right-shot defenseman who skates smoothly for his size.

One more scrimmage tomorrow to wrap up camp.
