The investigation into Zdeno Chara’s hit on Max Pacioretty on March 8 is expected to close in short order. Chara and his attorney met with Montreal police investigators July 9 in Boston.

“I was informed by Zdeno’s lawyer that he thought it went well,” said general manager Peter Chiarelli.

Chara rode Pacioretty into one of the Bell Centre stanchions. Pacioretty suffered a severe concussion and a fractured neck vertebra, ending his season. Chara was tagged with a five-minute interference major and a game misconduct. Chara was not suspended, but Montreal police pledged to open an investigation. At the time, Chara said he did not intend to drive Pacioretty into the stanchion.

Chara is not expected to face any charges from the incident.
