Andrew Ference and Chris Kelly will share the second alternate captaincy. Ference will wear the second “A” at home for the first half of the season. Kelly will have the “A” on the road during the first half. They will switch halfway through the year.

* Claude Julien acknowledged the Bruins had a tough call on letting Chris Clark walk yesterday. Julien noted that because Clark wasn’t among the top 12, it would have been hard for the ex-Washington captain to display his leadership qualities. Julien also hinted at the organization’s comfort in their bottom-six prospects. Jamie Arniel and Lane MacDermid could be call-ups if injuries strike the grunts.

* The Bruins have not decided whether Adam McQuaid will play tonight. If McQuaid can’t play, Matt Bartkowski would dress and be paired with Ference. Dennis Seidenberg will skate with Joe Corvo, while Zdeno Chara and Johnny Boychuk will be the first pairing.

* Julien didn’t tip his hand on whether Benoit Pouliot or Jordan Caron will be the third-line left wing.
