Shawn Thornton has signed a two-year extension. According to TSN, Thornton will carry a $1.1 million annual average cap hit.

Thornton has four goals and eight assists in 70 games while averaging 9:06 of ice time per match. Thornton has a league-leading 19 fights.

Thornton originally signed with the Bruins as a free agent on July 1, 2007. Thornton has two rings.

The 34-year-old hails from Oshawa, Ontario, but lives in Charlestown year-round.

Thornton would have been an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Chris Kelly, Gregory Campbell, Daniel Paille, and Joe Corvo are scheduled to reach UFA status at year's end. Corvo will not be re-signed.
