Final: Capitals 4, Bruins 3

Disaster. Troy Brouwer beats Thomas with a slapper from the right circle after getting some room along the right side. Caps lead 4-3

Benoit Pouilot gets two minutes for slashing

11:13 left
The Bruins score their first power-play goal of the series as Johnny Boychuk unloads a big slapper from the left point that eludes Braden Holtby. Tie game again 3-3.

12:31 left
Dennis Wideman goes off for cross checking.

13:46 left
Braden Holtby with two tremendous saves to keep the Bruins from tying the game. He stopped Milan Lucic on the doorstep and then took away what looked like an open net from Tyler Seguin, sliding left to right to make the save.


16:39 left in the third period
The Caps took a 3-2 lead when Mike Knuble beat Tim Thomas from the left side after gathering up a long rebound ater Thomas saved a slapper from Joel Ward from the opposite side.


Before the third period
Andrew Ference leads the Bruins with six shots. Zdeno Chara and Brad Marchand each have three. Alex Ovechkin leads the Caps with three. Chara's been putting the wood to the Caps with six hits. They can't do much when the venture into his area.


End of second period
The Bruins finally came to life in the final three minutes of the period, playing like the better team. That hasn't always been the case in this series. The Bruins are now outshooting the Caps 24-23 and Washington was most likely grateful for the buzzer and some time to regroup.


2:11 left
Like lightning the Bruins tie it up. First Dennis Seidenberg beat Braden Holtby with a alapshot from the right face-off circle. Off the ensuring faceoff, the Bruins continued to attack and Brad Marchand shoved in a rebound to give the Bruins the tie.

5:30 left
The Caps take a 2-0 when Jay Beagle scored on a slap shot from Thomas' right that seems to fool the Bruins goalie. Thomas had just made two saves but the Bruins couldn't clear the zone. Beagle got possession just inside the blue line and skated freely toward the goal before beating Thomas.


8:34 left
The Caps get on the board first when Alexander Semin scores from right in front after Thomas made two good saves.

12:36 left
No score after 4 on 4. Best chance came when Milan Lulic found David Krejci right in front but Krejci didn't get much on it and the puck went wide.


14:46 left in second
Johnny Boychuck and Troy Brouwer get tangled up behind Bruins goal, some pushing and shoving. Both go off for roughing.


Second about to start

Capitals outshot the Bruins 11-10. Seguin and Ference led Bruins with two shots each.

End of first

Scoreless again for these two defensive-minded teams. Caps got their first really good chance when Alex Ovechkin came in free on Tim Thomas but the Bruins goalie turned him away.
Just before the end of the period, Zdeno Chara put a thunderous check on the Caps' Jason Chimera behind the Bruins goal line. Both were slow to get up.

Bruins with several good chances but Capitals are able to kill off power play.

4:18 left
Bruins kill off penalty then get their two best chances of the game at even strength but Paille and Tyler Seguin can't get it past Holtby.

Roman Hamerlik goes the box for two minutes for hooking. Bruins will try to crack the 0 for 13

9:40 left

Daniel Paille gets two minutes for unsportsman like conduct. He and Roman Hamrlik slapped each other with their sticks waiting for a faceoff. Paille then dropped his stick and went after Hamrlik. The instigator got away with it.

It's now 4 on 3 for 41 seconds as Zdeno Chara and Troy Bouwer get nailed for roughing

9:40 left

Pretty dull and pretty quiet. Nothing much happening. Shots are even at 5.

12:24 left
Chara shot on power play was actually wide,Bruins failed to get a shot on goal in the man advantage. Nearly seven minutes in they finally got one but Braden Holtby easily handled Benoit Pouliot's slapper.

Caps haven't done much either, however


15:10 left

Capitals kill if off; Bruins now 0 for 13 on power play. Best chance was a Chara slapper that seemed to hit the post.

17:30 left in the first period
Caps John Carlson sent off for plowing into Tim Thomas after Thomas stopped his shot from straight away. The call was interference. First power play

Welcome to TD Garden and Game 5 of the Bruins-Capitals first-round playoff series. Stating the obvious, the winner will have a huge advantage. Game 6 will be in Washington Sunday at 3 p.m.

Late-arriving crowd and fairly quiet some 15 minutes before face-off. The Jumbotron should wind them up soon.
