Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli doesn’t have much work to do in training camp before the season starts next Saturday. The majority of the team is returning, and Chiarelli trusts his coaching staff to use that familiarity to the club’s advantage.

“Everyone’s healthy,” Chiarelli said. “Everyone’s excited. We’ve got changes in goal. You’re going to see a good team. I’ve talked about condensing expectations, which magnifies them, I guess. You’re going to see a team that’s highly, highly motivated.”

• As of 10 a.m. Monday, Tim Thomas will be considered a suspended player. Thomas’s $5 million annual hit will count toward the team’s cap. Via agent Bill Zito, Thomas informed Chiarelli that he still wants to play in 2013-14. The Bruins can toll Thomas’s contract forward one year. It’s doubtful the Bruins will welcome Thomas back.
• Adam McQuaid should be ready to play in Saturday’s season opener, Chiarelli said. McQuaid underwent surgery in October to remove a blood clot from the area around his right shoulder.
• Defenseman Dougie Hamilton can appear in six games before this season counts on his entry-level contract. Chiarelli said he expects Hamilton to make the team and stay on the roster the entire season.
• The $70.2 million cap is not a hard number. For example, Tyler Seguin’s performance bonuses can be included in the cushion.
• Chiarelli does not expect to make any trades in the short term.
• Some of the fan benefits following the end of the lockout include three complimentary food or non-alcoholic beverages for all home games in January; 25 percent off merchandise in the pro shop in January; and a raffle on opening night to win tickets to an away game (including chartering with the team and hotel).
