DETROIT — In the Bruins' first playoff game at Joe Louis Arena Tuesday, Milan Lucic was Enemy No. 1.
Make no mistake about it, the Red Wings faithful were not pleased with the Bruins forward after his cheap shot to Detroit defenseman Danny DeKeyser's privates in Game 1 of the series. Lucic was fined $5,000 for the hit, but that hasn't absolved him of the ire of the state of Michigan. He was booed every time he touched the puck and chants of "Lucic sucks" rang throughout the arena, even at times when he wasn't on the ice.
"I didn't expect it all," Lucic said Wednesday after the Bruins morning skate. "But it’s part of playoff hockey. One of those things that makes the game great. I think when the fans are into it, it makes it a lot more fun to play. The crowd was great here yesterday and we expect it to go up another notch for tomorrow’s game."
As far as the vitriol and how Lucic is taking it, he said he expects to turn this negative into a positive.
"Well I think you want to use it in a positive way, try to get it to fire you up. That’s how I react to it. You try to let it fire you up."
