Maybe Malcolm Subban will wear his father’s new purchase when the Providence Bruins goalie arrives at Springfield’s Mass Mutual Center Saturday evening for his team’s deciding Game 5 against the Falcons.
Heck, seeing as the game will start seven hours after brother P.K. sees if he can lead his Montreal Canadiens to a 2-0 lead against the Bruins, maybe the whole family can enjoy a Massachusetts hockey twinbill touting their wardrobe dedicated to the Habs captain.
According to the Montreal Gazette, Karl Subban purchased a “Canadien Dive Team” T-shirt outside the TD Garden prior to Thursday night’s Game 1, poking fun at the elder Subban offspring.
“I saw this shirt and I looked closely. I saw ‘76’ and I read it and I saw what it said. My wife laughed. My son Malcolm is here and he laughed, too,” Karl Subban told the Gazette. “So I said ‘I better buy one.’ I know the fans here are having fun. And I want to have some fun with it, too. But really that’s all it’s about.”
“It’s about having fun.”
The shirts are the product of local distributor ilovebostonsports.com, which was selling them across from the Garden. It’s safe to assume more than a few of the thousands who booed P.K. every time he touched the puck – and especially when he scored on a pair of power play goals – during Montreal’s Game 1 win were wearing them too.
