The World Series title capped a compelling postseason in which the Red Sox rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the American League Championship Series to beat the Yankees. In the final round, first-year Red Sox manager Terry Francona beat Hall of Fame-bound Tony La Russa and 24-year-old Albert Pujols. The Cardinals duo later won the World Series in 2006.
