Game 1 Bruins 4 Hurricanes 1

Stormproof (Globe Staff / Barry Chin)

Stormproof

Get the first goal after a long layoff? Check. Shut down the opponent's most dangerous line? Done. Keep the foot on the gas when you see your foe falter? All good.

Anything but close shave

Ninety-four seconds into their first game in nine days, the Bruins jumped to a 1-0 lead when David Krejci redirected an Aaron Ward wrist shot from just inside the blue line. Happy days were here again in the Hub of Hockey. Days of the Teddy Bear picnic. (Boston Globe)

Game 2 Hurricanes 3 Bruins 0

Lost edge (Globe Staff / Barry Chin)

Lost edge

The Hurricanes swaggered out of a sold-out Garden last night and proved that Zdeno Chara and the Bruins were human after all, handing Boston its first postseason loss and evening the series at a game apiece. Carolina goalie Cam Ward had a 36-save shutout.
Dan Shaughnessy

Killer win for the former Whalers

It was a good night for Hartford. A good night for the Hartford Whalers Booster Club. Not such a good night for the Boston Bruins.

Game 3 Hurricanes 3 Bruins 2 (OT)

Carolina blue (Barry Chin / Globe Staff)

Carolina blue

Jussi Jokinen potted the winner less than three minutes into overtime as the Hurricanes topped the Bruins in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals in Raleigh.
Bob Ryan

Storm warning is loud, clear

The Bruins have a little problem here. This other team seems to think it can win.

Game 4 Hurricanes 4 Bruins 1

On thin ice (Globe Staff / Barry Chin)

On thin ice

After dropping a 4-1 decision to the seemingly unstoppable Hurricanes, the Bruins must win three straight games if they want to keep 2008-09, a season that included so much success, alive beyond next week.
Bob Ryan

Ex-castoff Jokinen has dominated

Should the Raleigh area nursery schools be bracing themselves for an onslaught of little Jussis in a couple of years time? It's possible.
On hockey

Enmity lacking for a worthy enemy

Their game a mess, their confidence in tatters, the Bruins continued their shift-by-shift disintegration in a 4-1 loss.

Game 5 Bruins 4 Hurricanes 0

Bearing down (Globe Staff / Barry Chin)

Bearing down

Zdeno Chara has a close look as goalie Cam Ward can't stop Phil Kessel's second goal of the night. Chara and the Bruins kept their season alive with a 4-0 win in Game 5. Carolina now leads the series, 3-2.
Bob Ryan

On this night, end not in sight

it's not over yet. The Bruins made sure of that last night by delivering a powerful we-ain't-dead-yet message, blowing out the Canes by a 4-0 score in a game they dominated from the first drop of the puck.
On Hockey

No better time to be better

The Bruins led in all the key categories in Game 5. They were more intense, more physical, better able to handle the puck and maintain offensive pressure, and had the better goalie.

Game 6 Bruins 4 Hurricanes 2

Storming back (Barry Chin / Globe Staff)

Storming back

This is not the way the Bruins would have written up the game plan. But for a team that lost three straight games and put itself in a 3-1 series hole, perhaps the script was a fitting one to follow to bring the Hurricanes to the edge.
Dan Shaughnessy

Garden ice the place for chilling climax

So now we get the best thing there is in Boston sports: another seventh game in the Garden.

Game 7 Hurricanes 3 Bruins 2 (OT)

Over and out

Over and out (Globe Staff / Barry Chin)
Winter, so generously extended into May, has come to a close. With a bat of his stick in overtime in Game 7 at the Garden, Carolina's Scott Walker triggered the start of a final ice melt that came late this season. Not as late as the Bruins were hoping.
Dan Shaughnessy

Their Cup runneth empty

If you really want to know the truth, this felt a little like that football game in Glendale, Ariz., 15 month ago. You remember, History Derailed and all that.
