The folks at Brooks Running are known for their creativity when it comes to their display at the Boston Marathon Expo, which opens Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Hynes Convention Center.

Past themes have included running superfans, pure running heaven, and "Brash," a spinoff on a M*A*S*H theme.

This year, it's "Carb Happy," and Boston.com's Steve Silva got a behind the scenes look on Thursday as the booth was constructed.

"It's very easy just to build a store, because obviously we're selling goods here, but if you can make it come to life a little bit, literally, that's what we want to do," said Peter Mannos, senior manager of retail development for Brooks. "
