So long, Grady

After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Jerry Remy should be the next in line for the job. The only problem with this is that Remy has a great job that doesn't lie under the scrutiny that Boston fans like to place upon their managers. This is a guy who is a student of the game of baseball. He knows baseball better then anyone else, and he's also a great guy to have around the clubhouse. This is the man that will bunt when you need your team to bunt. He will hit and run at the correct times. He also reads other teams very well, and he seriously has a knack for this game more so than anyone else who has taken the position of Boston Red Sox manager.

I was at Game 7, about 40 feet from where Aaron Boone's walkoff landed, in left field. Surrounded by quieted Yankee fans out there, I turned to my fellow Sox fan at the top of th 8th and said, we should take out Pedro. After Jeter's 1-out, 0-2 double, how much clearer could it be? Props to Grady for a great regular season (especially with the weak bullpen he was given), but what's the point of having a great regular season if you can't manage postseason games? There was a pattern of questionable managerial decisions and non-decisions in the Oakland series. Maybe the next candidate won't manage the regular season as well as Little could--but we've got to move forward!

davey lopes would be a great choice- from a winning organization(dodgers) from new england, a no nonsense guy that wants to win

Of course this is the right move! The only person who definitely should not get his job is Jerry Manuel, the former White Sox manager who has no personality and does not know how to handle a pitching staff and win games down the stretch... Although he probably would have gotten Pedro out of the game... Why do I let this torture me 10 days later?

This biggest shame it that it is about 7 months too late!! It is a shame it had to come to this - but Grady left everyone with no choice. Grady seems like a great guy. He should be applauded for keeping combustible situations tame. He should get credit for fostering an environment where success could occur. But ---- to think that his awful game-management was simply a game 7 situation is ludicrous. I live in upsate NY - so I have to get the MLB package to watch the Sox. Grady must have had me pulling my hair out with ridiculous decisions - and non-decisions during 40 different games this summer. Yes - on the surface - 95 wins sounds great. But - wouldn't this team won 100 or more with good, high-school level decision making during games? By the middle of April anyone paying attention knew that Grady was going to screw this thing up as husgely as he actually did. This move is months too late.

Let's recruit Joe Torre! Yeahhhh!!!!

I am so glad! And not just because of Game 7..how about Game 2 when Little sat Todd Walker his hottest hitter and let Damien Jackson bat leading off the seventh inning when we were down by only 2? Tons of examples..] In a dream world, Torre.. I wish the Sox would get Tim Naehring from the Reds for a supporting role..and Marty Barrett was always a smart player, would be a good bench coach..

From a 50 plus years Boston fan, my first choice would be Joe Torre. Would be a great new adventure for Joe and a proven manager with great player relations skills for the Red Sox. My second choice would be Davy Johnson. With the exception of his Dodger's last stint, everywhere he managed he was a winner. He knows baseball well and wants to win. I hope Boston will select a proven veteran manager. With a few good acquisitions and the right manager, Boston can go all the way in 2004.

It's a shame that one decision will be Grady's legacy, but this was too big to ignore. I wouldn't trust him in another big game after the ridiculous decision he made in Game 7. Hopefully we'll be able to find somebody who can handle us fans who "don't consider it winning until you win the World Series".
