After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Page 18 Hollywoods waiting for Grady to star in Forrest Gump 2. I can hear Grady now ..."Life is like a box of choclates!" He shot himself in the foot when he asked Pedro if he wanted to stay in the game. Anyone with an ego isn't going to pull themselves from a game. Be a manager first - friend second! Scott, Halifax Why doesn't Theo manage the Club? Just think of the blunders he would have made using Bill James statistics to justify his lineup. -Ortiz was 0-20 against Mussina before blasting a clutch home run. -Trot doesn't hit lefties but hit Heredia for a home run. -Embree can't get lefty hitters out, and that's why he was standing in the bullpen during last game. Whom ever manages this team is going to have to deal with "stat man" and the GM. Good luck to them. Mark, Cambridge I am torn on the Grady decision. He surely has his strengths as a player manager but oh so many weaknesses as a game manager. It is so difficult to manage in Boston and Grady did an outstanding job keeping this team together and avoiding the late season swoon that we have seen so often. However, watching the team all season there were so many hair pulling moments on Grady's game management that it is hard to justify bringing him back. He also did not learn from his mistakes. Leaving pitchers in too long was a problem all season, and as paniful as game 7 was one could have seen this coming as a fan. I am torn, I don't want Grady back but is there anyone out there who can have the respect of the players as well as manage the game. Tough call but I guess we will find out. Mike, Dunn Loring, VA People need to get over this game 7 idea. Look, whoever thinks Pedro should have been left in too long, that's why you are at home like Grady is. Pedro's numbers after 106 pitches and a bullpen that was outstanding (some guy called them questionable??... umm Timlin had 9.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, and 11K) warrented even my own mother to question that move. Throw on top his questionable pinch running, hit and runs, and laid back style (throughout the SEASON) that couldn't light a fire at a gas station, he deserved to go. Who else can get Damien Jackson into a game in the 7th inning for "defensive purposes?" Face it, he is a minor league bench coach and always will be. Niceness doesn't get you everywhere in this game. Grady is a nice guy, just not a MLB coach. Jeff, Boston I think the Red Sox should hire Kevin Kennedy back as manager. I'm not sure why he was let go and he makes some sound judgements on TV. David, Grand Rapids, Mi by way of Norwood,MA I think Grady Little was the best thing that ever happened to the Sox! To lose him will be a shame to the entire Nation... not to mention the guys actually out on the field wearing the uniforms! Karen Y., Newburyport, Mass. I watched the tape of the 7th game of the ALCS last night, just to see how badly Pedro was "spent" in the 8th inning. He had given up a total of only 3 hits in 7 innings - 2 of them the home runs that Giambi hit. He got Nick Johnson (a tough lefty) to pop up weakly to SS to start the inning. He got 2 strikes on Jeter (the Yanks' most reliable hitter throughout the postseason and the toughest out in their whole lineup) before Jeter hit a double to the opposite field - a ball that Trot Nixon could have caught if he had gotten a good jump on the ball. He got 2 strikes on Williams - a switch-hitter - before Bernie hit a clean single to center, scoring Jeter. Then Grady comes out to talk to him, and leaves him in. He gets 2 quick strikes on Matsui before giving up a double down the right field line that was hooking sharply and landed in fair territory by no more than 2 feet. Then he pitched to Posada, another swtich-hitter, who hit a soft bleeder into centerfield for a single - again with 2 strikes. He was throwing in the low to mid-90's right up to the end, and some of the breaking balls he threw in the 8th inning were unhittable. The meat of the Yankee order - good hitters all of them - managed to scratch and scrounge for 4 consecutive 2-strike hits. If Grady had brought in a lefty after Jeter's hit, both Williams and Posada would have hit from the right side, where both of them are still very dangerous. I'm not the world's biggest Pedro fan, but I think Grady Little is getting screwed. The decision was not as easy as Sox fans like to believe. If Grady had relieved Pedro and Williams, Matsui, and/or Posada had driven in 3 runs to tie the game (or worse), we'd be hearing what a knucklehead he was for taking out the "best pitcher in the game" with the penant on the line. It's a bunch of crap. John, Boston Finally he's gone. He couldn't even manage his way out of a paper bag. He was afraid to "manage" the minorities in fear of any reprecusions because of the city. the sox should hire the best available not just a token black. lamonte, boston HI, I am probably in the minority, but I feel that Grady has gotten the usual Boston boot. If the team does not win it all, then the coach, manager or anyone else we can easily drive out is sent packing. Grady has done a fabulous job with all the players in the past two seasons. Yes, I do agree that his decision to keep Pedro in was bad, but if we all were fired for making a bad decision, then the unemployment rate would skyrocket. Grady should have the chance to redeem himself. With such short sightedness, it is no wonder that we always hear "Wait til next year!!" Kevin, Rockland This is a witch hunt. Grady is a whipping boy to ease the pain of losing to the Yankees. I don't blame any Boston sports figure for wanting to leave this town. The press and fans are lifeless losers with nothing better to do than endlessly debate the 'what ifs' . Grady was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. If he put someone else in and lost the game he'd currently be getting crucified for not leaving Pedro in. Get a life people. It's a GAME.
