So long, Grady

After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Idiots! Exactly why the Red Sox will continue their misery. Just when you get a guy (Grady Little) who can bring a bunch of high priced egos together and win, you can him!!! All for one non-move. Nobody can do anything right as the manager of the Boston Red Sox. Shame on Management for letting the Fans make a decision for them. Stupid knee jerk reaction on the part of the fans and especially management.

I'm a bit mixed on this. Sure, my gut reaction immediately after Game 7 was to fire Grady Little. And why shouldn't that have been my reaction? I spent the entire 8th inning yelling at the TV because he wouldn't pull the trigger. But I also remember the man Little succeeded and how much less second-guessing I had done with Little than I had with Jimy Williams. And, let's face it, Grady spent the entire season trying to find a hot hand in the bullpen and never found one until the postseason. It's somewhat amazing that he was even able to get us to the Wild Card despite the implosive relievers. I'm also not aware of any "tremendous" managerial candidates on the market. Most seem like they've been around the block without much success or they just simply don't have the experience required for a market such as Boston. And as for these cries for Jerry Remy - hey, I love Remy, too, but what sort of managing experience does he bring to the table? So let's not even go that route. Also, the player response does not seem to bode well for the front office. Even long-time Red Sox players have to admit that this move seems reminicent of the old regime. But there is one lingering thought that keeps me on the side of ousting Grady Little. He does not know how to admit his mistakes. Heck, even this one was easy for him to PC his way through. All he had to do was some something like, "I felt like I made the right call at the time by sticking with my ace but, in hindsight, I may have gotten different results by going to the bullpen." The first half appeases Pedro and the second half appeases the fans. And, honestly, all he could really say is "different results". No one knows what may have happened if Embree faced Matsui. We saw plenty of people take Embree deep during the season and it very well could have happened there. But we'll never know and that's what doesn't sit well with me. It wasn't a "clean" loss.

Being an out of town Sox fans since 66 I may have a different perspective. I think they should go to a tried and true bench coach that has been through the wars and has "WON". Hell tick George off and mention Torre, but don't make a snap choice. Open the job up and let's see who wants it, I am sure you will have the pick of the litter. Just make sure it is someone that the players MUST listen to and play for. I see that you folks like Fregosi, well he wouldn't be my first choice but make sure if it is him. If all else fails you could bring back Dick Williams, after this year age does not matter. Bottom line oen it up see who want's it and get the best, who ever it may be......

While I admit Grady has done some questionable things this past year (game 7 being the worst), I am not sure if this is a wise move by the Sox. I understand that Grady is not a stats freak, but his win/loss record speaks for itself. He did get this group of players to win and that is the ultimate goal of the team. I don't think keeping him for a couple more years would have hurt. If we don't make the Series next year, what will be the excuse then? Time is running out on the great core group of guys that I would love to see win it all... But since it is apparently a done deal, I vote for Manuel to come in. We definitely need another guy that the players will immediately warm up to so there is no fallout over the Grady fiasco.

Bad move...New England fans are unreal, absolutely unforgiving in any situation...they need to get a grip... and Grady's comments on haunting the team?? It'll happen, just wait and see...Torre loves him, Grady will be a Yankee next year...What will we have?? an upset unruly clubhouse... Henry and Lucchino are the ones who need to leave...no justification for this, they keep this up, they'll be no different than the Boss in NY.

Have the Sox ever made the right move? It all started with the wrong move, G.H. Ruth.

COMPLETELY IDIOTIC MOVE! I can't believe Red Sox management can't see what Grady did for this team. I've been an avid Sox fan for over 40 years and I'm just plain sick of the Ruthian-type moves this organization continues to make. Whatever team Grady goes to will come back and bite Red Sox nation in the you-know-what! CYA Sox! Go Marlins! Oh, and hope to never see ya again John Henry!

My thoughts....hmmmm....How many times did I couch coach for Grady..Too many....Too bad he didn't call me...I would have left Kim in in Oakland, and taken pedro out in ny....I would have done a lot of other things to..Like start my ACE pitcher on the first game after the all Star break instead of letting him have all that time off...Because, when you give Pedro time off, Manny wants time off. Something this team has endured 2-3 years now...Grady should have been fired when he didn't BENCH MANNY FOR NOT RUNNING OUT OF THE BOX LAST YEAR....oi vey

The Sox finally had a good manager who got a team with average talent to the ALCS because of the "chemistry" he was able to create in the clubhouse. And now apparently the mgmt of the team agrees with all of the "armchair" managers and knuckleheads who rant on sports radio. I'm sorry to see Grady leave, but he's probably not sorry to leave the negativity that is part of Boston sports.

Brady certainly got the short end of the stick on this deal. He was the perfect man for the job. Once again, Boston blew it. Who else, other than Grady, would have benched Manny in Philly? That was the turning point of the season for the Sox. I believe that Grady is a better manager than any of the current candidates. The next manager should be Bobby V, even though I dislike him.
