So long, Grady

After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

I think it's a shame that Grady is getting the blame. He kept the team in the fight all year. But given that he now must be replaced...well if you want another scape goat you could bring Bill Buckner back...but seriously why not Carlton Fisk or Jim Rice?

I was never more interested and involved with the Red Sox then I was this past season. I attribute this to the overall cohesiveness and evident camraderie of the team. I believe that this was due in large part to Grady Little's managerial style(apparently the players did, as well). I think its a cowardly decision responding to the fickle fans who love you when you're up and kick you when you're down.Pass thi on to Grady Little- I wish him all the best.

I wouldn't say the Sox are making the right move in parting ways with Grady, but definitely making a necessary move. Grady deserves credit for helping this team form cohesion and comradery in the clubhouse and thus leading the team to a no-game is a loss mentality. However, his decision-making skills need some improvement, and even though Pedro was at fault for the 8th inning, it was remember Grady who left him in....Pedro said he thought he was done. A manager cannot manage on hunches or be intimidated by a player's stature. A manager shouldn't be intimidated by anyone. How can Grady go from one of his best moves of the year (benching manny) to one of his worst (leaving pedro in when you have a playoff reliable bullpen). I think many sox fans would agree that if he did bring in the bullpen and they blew it then we'd be saying oh well....bullpen couldn't always be perfect in the playoffs, and Pedro didn't look like he had anymore in the tank anyways. Since that didn't happen then we have to live with this, and if Grady returned, he would never be forgotten as this would always linger in the minds of red sox fans as a pennant that was lost by a Little. As for Mananger: Davey Lopes, Mike Stanley, or Carlton Fisk should be considered as possibilities. Maybe include Jim Fregosi in there as well....Next year sox fans!!! Lets just hope management gets a great all around manager.

Rem-dog the new manager? Who's going to be the bench coach - Wally?

like the old saying goes... "suck one dirty c... and what do they call you? a dirty c... sucker! so long Grady , how much did George pay you for game seven?

Wouldn't it be great to see Grady as Joe Torre's bench coach for the Yankees next year now that Zimmer is leaving? Go Yanks!

I am not surprised. Grady Little did do a lot for the team. He made that team actually work as a team. The two years that he was manager the team won 90+ games in it's season. Although, he really made some bad managerial decisions throughout the season, including one that cost the team a trip to the World Series. That should have been the Red Sox doing the rain dance on Yankee's turf. Anyway you knew that he was toast after the WS. I feel bad - but - you don't try to build a team by being everyone's best friend. I know and everyone else that watched game 7 knew - he should of taken Predo out of the game. That stupid move was just the icing on the cake.

The current Red Sox owners are hucksters, pure and simple. Of course they were going to fire Grady Little. Put up a wet finger and see where the wind is blowing. It is a shame that a bunch of out of towners who have no ties to Boston are in command. Joe O"Donnell and Steve Karp were the logical group to take the reins from Harrington & Company. As for now, the hucksters are running the show.

It's hard losing to the Yankees, but it's just as hard for me knowing that a very capable manager--one that the players themselves supported--is gone. Duquette dumped Williams in 2001, and now Theo is dumping Little. Theo's made some bright moves, but not this time. Of course, I'm not privy to everything that he and Lucchino based this decision on. But I have this very bad feeling that all the fans who got what they asked for in Grady's dismissal will look back at some point next year and point to this day as the day the 2004 season went south. But by then they'll probably have forgotten that they helped toss Little--and the 2004 season--into the dumpster.

It's unfortunate really. Nothing short of going to the World Seriews was going to secure his job in the first place. It's just that under these circumstances, there's no way the organization will be able to keep face (outside of Boston).
