After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Page 23 Unfortunately one game caused his demise. It is probably unfair. However, there is no way he could return to Fenway. Every time he would show his face he would be booed out of the place and it would be a distraction to the team. Grady's name now will almost assume the unfortunate status of Bill Buckner's. In all fairness, his record shows he deserves better. Kent , Eliotm ME Gimme a break. Let me see them find someone better for this team. Wouldn't it be nice to have a manager for this team for a period of time. When you think of winners, managers come to mind. The Yanks and Torres. The Dodgers it was Lasorda, the Braves it's Bobby Cox. The revolving door is much like the Bruins. It's a joke. The new managers better find someone who's going be around a while. Develop a style of play and an identity. This ought to be interesting Corey, The Lake Boston fans amaze me. Nothing is ever good enough for them, and with that attitude, they will never win a World Series. Grady did a fine job and they would be screaming for his head if he HAD yanked Pedro in the 7th. Red Sox fans are the Red Sox franchise's curse. Christine, Waltham big, big, mistake pam, brookline I think its awful... But as usual, if the Sox manage to blow it, then blame must be placed. Forget all the great games we had all year, forget the great attitude the team had for once, lets just remember the bad decision... Why don't the fans manage by committee, they're always right :) Lisa , Falmouth grady's decisions regarding pitching changes in the late innings were suspect and, in some cases, unfathomable, well before game 7 of the alcs. he could never be accepted as the manager in boston after staying with a spent pedro and blowing the chance to let an improved bullpen put the yankees away. lonnie, raleigh, nc Grady had to be let go - he couldn't stay in Boston any more than Bill Buckner. I don't blame Buckner - that was a physical mistake. Grady's mistake was relying on the ego of one of his pitchers rather than doing the right thing for the ball club. Would Joe Torre have left Martinez in? Most likely, Pedro would have never seen the mound in the 8th. The saddest part of it all is that Williamson never got a chance to win it in the 9th... If Tony LaRusa is available, grab him. If Steinbrenner is dumb enough to let Joe Torre go, grab him!! JJ, Chelmsford I think the decision to not exercise Grady Little's contract option was a good one. I have been a redsox fan for about 15 years, and this is the best team they have had in those 15 years. For the most part, they played consistent baseball all 162 games. They did not have their usual mid-season collapse. There was great chemistry among the players. Next season, they have virtually everyone coming back. In order for this team to go to the World Series next year, they need a manager who has the right baseball mind. Grady Little had the tendancy to make several head-scratching decisions over the course of the season. Whether it was leaving a pitcher in too long, claiming to go to "whoever has the hot hand in the bullpen" but give the ball to the likes of Sauerback who did little for them, pinch hit/run in the wrong situations, whatever. In the ALCS, Jason Giambi was slumping, so in game 7, Torre put him 7th in the lineup, and he responded by hitting two homeruns. Did Little do that with Nomar, who was doing equally as bad? No, he allowed him to bat third. With runners on, would he bunt Nomar? No, he would let him swing away, and pop out, strike out, whatever. In terms of the 8th inning debacle in game 7, I disagree with Little's decision to keep Pedro in, but only somewhat. Timlin and Embree were great during the postseason, and were ready in the pen. Grady decided to keep Pedro in for Matsui. Ok, although maybe he should have taken him out, i understand not doing it. But then you have posada up, someone who ALWAYS kills the sox. That is when Grady should have taken on the role of a manager, come out, and signaled to the pen before he even got to pedro on the mound. Who the redsox should get now is up in the air, I think Torre's the best bet if he leaves NY, but the way Theo has been running this team, I have faith that the right man for the job will be selected Bobby, Westfield CARL Yastrzemski, or how about Dwight Evans! Or how about Davey Lopes M., Upstate New York This is the dumbest thing the Sox have done in a long time. Grady Little has been great for the clubhouse. In two years he has produced TWO 90+ game-winning teams. How many managers in the major leagues can do that with an organization like the Red Sox (clubhouse and front office)? Yes, he may have made one bad decision that cost the Sox a trip to the World Series, but he should not be denied the opportunity to guide this ballclub to future playoff appearances! The problem with the Boston Red Sox organization is that it is so consumed with the "Curse of the Bambino" in the short-term that it has no foresight for cultivating a long-term, consistently winning team. Grady Little is one of the best things that has happened for this team and it's a shame that his contract will not be extended because the media decided to pin him as the scapegoat for an otherwise great season.
