After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Page 3 Yes they are. Distancing themselves from Grady Little is a good move. They won 188 games mostly in spite of Mr. Little. He is a very good bench coach, but not a good manager. Davey Lopes should be the next manager. He's been a player in the league, won a championship (instant respect), and has New England ties. He is a smart, articulate man. A very good fit to handle a team whose superstars don't like talking to the media. He and Varitek will keep all the reporters happy with plenty of information and good quotes. Dominic, Antioch, Ca. a stupid is ... a stupid does... can we talk to bochy about leaving the padres? mike , hollywood, ca Grady did a great job in creating a real team spirit, and I believe that carried them a long way. But that gaffe in game 7 was inexcusible, and unrecoverable. Everyone makes mistakes, but he had 4 chances to correct it and did nothing. The team and the fans have lost all respect for him. Bon Voyage Grady! Dan , Hanover I thought Grady did a credible job and if not for the the eighth inning debacle in game 7, I would have expected the Sox to extend his contract. Unfortunately, it would be impossible for him to manage in Boston next year under the circumstances and evidently, he's the only one who doesn't understand why. He should be fired for that reason alone Bill , Hilton Head Island, SC This decision only reflects the same sentiment that a majority of Boston fans show every year..."WE LOVE YOU SOX...until you make a mistake...then we hate you...think you pretty much suck...are imbeciles...and should be compared to every little league team." I am a die-hard Sox fan (who actually sobbed following game 7) who believes that this management decision is horrendous. We haven't had a team like this one for yeeeeears. Why are we forgetting the incredible things that Grady has done with these guys? Do we blame Grady for Mueller, Garciparra and Ramirez's inability to hit a baseball in the post season?!?! The Sox lost game 7...but this is one fan who thinks that, had we been playing the way we did all year, we would have shut the Yankees down earlier...and there never should have been a game 7! How pathetic that management has no appreciation for hard work and an ability to LEAD a team. THERE IS NO PRICE on being able to bring guys together like Grady did. I already pity the next coach...who has tremendous shoes to fill and will likely be fired if the Sox don't get to the World Series in '04. Grady - you are the very symbol of a coach and leader. And if the Sox can't get to the World Series next year...I certainly hope your team does. Thank you for some of the best memories this City has ever experienced at Fenway! Jennifer, Cambridge You showed you could not do what a manager needed to do to win the big game. Your lucky streak ran out and you showed by your comments of the last week that you can not handle the pressure of managing in Boston. Happy obscurity! John , San Diego, CA I thought the people in the Cleveland Indians front office were clueless. You people up there definitely take the cake. Wade , Cleveland, OH Grady should retain the job for one more season. It was Pedro who gave up 4 straight 2-strike hits on 89mph fastballs on the inner half. It was Pedro who got 2-strike counts on 4 straigh batters with his curve and change. Why not throw another offspeed pitch to induce a ground ball? Why go with a fastball when you offspeed pitches are still as good as in the earlier innings? The only thing I blame Grady for is not telling Pedro he is not Pedro anymore and to use his head more. But then again, shouldn't Pedro know that better than anybody? Jason, Boston I think they have made a big mistake. Grady is a big part of why this team is the way it is. I can not believe these owners are as fickle as the talk radio hosts in the Boston area. Ellen, Fairhaven So long Grady! It wasn't your first mistake that cost you the Red Sox managers' job - just your last. We all know how nice of a guy you were, but bottom line is this team was put together to beat the Yankees (not as some believe to win the World Series - that would have been the bonus plan) and you blew it. The Sox could have gone down 4 straight in the World Series and you would have been back. Right or wrong it's too late now. Don Zimmer for 2004! T.
