So long, Grady

After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Just read the book "Moneyball" to clearly understand where Theo and team are taking us. Let's put the emphasis on the players who can perform in 2004 and not on a superstar manager! Just say "No" to Joe Torre, he's not what we need!

I think it's the wrong decision to let Little go. He has been a strong, positive influence on this team, and brought us the best baseball I've watched since the 1960s. I hate it when people talk -- and sportswriters write -- about how frustrating the Sox are, how they get so close and then break our hearts. This is complete nonsense, they never break our hearts, they're wonderful! What breaks my heart again and again are the stupid writers who keep up the mantra -- can't they see that the Sox were fantastic this year, and that Grady Little had a lot to do with that? He's completely right in wanting to leave, if nothing short of the actual pennant (or ALCS championship) is good enough. Goodbye, Grady, I for one will certainly miss you!!!!!!

....It'll be "wait till next year" again at the end of next year. What makes the Sox think that Grady lost the series? If everyone was as stand up as Pedro, perhaps things would be diferent. Maybe if Nomar had hit at least a tiny bit, do you think that would have helped? How about Manny? How much did he help win? Not much. Grady made a decision, not a mistake. The players on the field made the mistakes.

No way! The Sox brass has either accidentally or deliberately taken a page out of the Yankee playbook and canned a perfectly loyal and hardworking employee (with otherwise good results) and sacked him for missing out on the big show. Grady made a judgement call. It proved the wrong one, but the team has performed peerlessly under his guidance regardless. I pity the team members, the fans, and the new manager next season. It's gonna be a rough road without Grady. J_K

The man for the job is Tom Kelly. Similar to Grady in his way of handling the players and getting the most out of them, but able to make the right moves on the field.

I think in some ways yes and some no. He made some stupid moves during the regular season and post season, but I think he brought this team together and was an asset in the clubhouse. He must have done something right to get the Red Sox to the ALCS game 7, he made a mistake who doesnt, I will miss him and think he is going to catch on some where and be a HUGE success

We want Coach Bloom from Shawsheen Tech to take over the Sox... He is a real baseball man...

This is a big mistake. The guy took you to the seventh game of the ALCS in only his second year with the club, and his second year as a big league manager. Everyone makes mistakes - he deserves better than this. How foolish not to show patience and stay with the guy that got us further than anyone in a long time. He has learned from his mistake, and another club will benefit. Don't be surprised if he shows up as Don Zimmer's replacement under Joe Torre. How foolish we have looked during the past decade - Hobson, Kennedy, Williams, Kerrigan, Little, now someone else. Who's going to want to work here? Might as well put Jerry Remy, Dan Shaughnessy or Peter Gammons in there - they seem to know more about how to run the Sox than the Sox do. Grady Little is a first class guy and even though he made some mistakes, no Sox manager in the past 15 years has fared nearly as well, and no one has had more respect from his players.

Grady- Even though the popular thought here in Boston is "See you later". I would like to thank you for all that you did within the Sox clubhouse. It seems that this is the closest team I have seen in my 32 years as a fan. I hope there isn't bad feeling towards the fanbase here in Boston. Good Luck to you, and to your family as well.

Since when did Grady do such a great job the last two years??? They just had arguably the best offensive team in history, and still barely got the wild card...they couldnt even finish better than the Yankees. Then they got incredibly lucky against the A's (who doesn't in the playoffs?) and their inept baserunning. The Red Sox had an unreal team and still only got to where they were by the skin of their teeth. And while their pitching wasn't that good it certainly wasnt the worst. The fact that they didn't win 100+ games in either year is a sign that Grady was in over his head. Good riddance.
