So long, Grady

After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

After Game 7, I wanted Grady Little's head on a silver platter. After a few weeks, my feelings have changed. Grady Little helped this team to actually become a "team", like Dusty Baker with the Cubs and Jack McKeon with the Marlins. Unlike the Yankee, where it is all egos, Grady got these guys to focus on a greater goal-winning games as a team. Remember, there is no "I" in team. Unfortunately, Grady would never get a fair shake in this town if the Red Sox did take the option on his contract. That is just the way this town is. The Red Sox management and owners better think long and hard this off season and try and find a good manager-someone like Grady Little-because the Yankees will sure outspend to get a better team next year.

It's too bad about Grady Little. The Red Sox wouldn't have gotten where they were if it hadn't been for him. Some speculate that we may have gotten even farther if it hadn't been for the call to leave Pedro in. Who knows what would have happened? The bullpen may have blown it, too - no one knows. We got to enjoy baseball season a little longer than usueal which I am grateful for and what an exciting season it was! Too bad it had to be the end of Grady's career with the Red Sox - the team supported him and each other because of him and now we should be concerned about how that will affect the team next year.

this decision will come back to haunty sox fans. just as leaving pedro in did. unless torre comes available there isn't anyone as good as little out there.

Managing a baseball team is *not* a difficult job, despite what that blowhard Tim McCarver would claim. Yet, Grady was entirely overmatched in one situation after another. Show me a guy who "plays hunches", and I'll show you a guy who should be driving a tractor around his farm in NC next spring. Tom Kelly, Jim Leyland, Whitey Herzog (please G-d!)... but I'll take Willie Randolph or Mike Stanley.

Good riddance Grady Gump.

Grady was a scapegoat. Next to go is Pedro and then Nomar. Remember these guys are businessmne at the end of the day. They still owe 750 million.

It's incredible that some think Grady should be back- Yes he kept a solid clubhouse but if you know the game of baseball and watch this team on a daily basis then you know why Grady "Little League" never got a major league managerial position before. He is one of the worst strategical managers in the game- if not the worst- The only reason why Grady has a good winning percentage is that we surrounded him with so much talent. Also dumb luck had a key- Grady got so lucky with some of these moves especially magnified in the Oakland series- he should never have the right to manage another big league club again.

Despite Little's infamous mistake in Game 7 of the ALCS, I think it's unfortunate that the Sox are letting him go. Maybe a younger manager like Glenn Hoffman, Bruce Bochy, or Bud Black will be better suited to the front office's philosophy of using statistics as the basis for most in-game decisions, but I doubt any of the candidates for the job will be able to hold the clubhouse together like Grady did this year. Whoever hires Grady Little, and I'm sure he'll get a job within the next two seasons, will be getting a solid guy to run their team.

I think it's a shame that a guy who manages our team to 90+ wins in back-to-back seasons and brings us to the playoffs in his second year has to be dismissed because of one bad decision. I didn't agree with him leaving Pedro in, but I think that he brought a lot to the clubhouse and he somehow managed to keep the team together despite various off-field distractions. I'm sure he's a good man, of that I have no doubt. But that's not what gets you into and wins you the World Series. Nice guys finish last. Grady's finding that out. I can't wait to see who they bring in to replace him. Good luck to that guy. Not only will it be difficult to manage the Boston Red Sox, here in this town, facing this media on a daily basis. He's also gonna have to prove to this team that the front office did the right thing in getting rid of a popular manager who was clearly a players manager. I hope he's not a nice guy. Thanks for the two years, Grady. Especially this year. I had the summer of my life rooting for my team.
