So long, Grady

After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Wrong move by the Sox

Josh, Boston

I agree with this move to get rid of Grady. While he seemed like to be an excellent guy to be around and seems to be great with the behind-the-scenes aspect of managing, when it came to the nuts and bolts of making decisions during games (especially in the late innings with pitching) Grady has made some big mistakes over the past 2 years. His one major weakness has always been figuring out when to take out pitchers, finding roles for pitchers, and so on. I hope the Sox make a careful search for a manager. The new manager has to be strong both behind-the-scenes and in front of millions of fans. Good luck.

I am not surprised that Grady is fired, I'n concerned that the players will be upset by this move. I liked Grady, but that mistake not take pedro out was dreadful. It cost us the world series and no sox fan will ever forget that. Who ever is the next manager should be prepared for a interesting sox team. Will see what happens. Go sox!

I am very hapy that Grady Little was fired. I hated him in the beginning of the year up until he stupidly left Pedro in, in Game 7. So long Grady have fun sitting in North Carolina.

The 17.5 million dollar man said "He was responsible" and he is absolutely correct. Grady was an excellent manager of the team and his best pitcher should have been able to close out the game. If he had taken Pedro out and put in Embree, with his 96 mph, straight as a pin, fastball and the same results occured, I could see the outrage. But, let's face it, Pedro blew it, not Grady. On the other hand, I would have liked Scott Williamson in there a the end and not Tim Wakefield, as much as I love Tim. Just not the right guy at the end of a game.

This is really a sad day. Grady has done an excellent job and does not deserve what has been said about him. Nobody has said it so I will, what if Grady would have pulled Pedro and put in someone from the Bullpen (which had cost the Red Sox numerous games throughout the year) and the Bullpen had given up those same hits. Everybody would have claimed he should have left Pedro in. I've been a Red Sox fan but I'm giving up on an organization that is so unloyal and a group of fans that are so ungreatful.

Jerry Remy as Manager with Don Zimmer as the new pitching coach.

Im certainly not a Red Sox fan although I was hoping to see them to make the WS. But to fire your manager??? Geez......Red Sox Mgmt must be Idiots! Good luck with next year.

The Sox are indeed making the right move to not renew Little's contract after that terrible move he made in the 7th game against the Yankees. The Red Sox should find someone who has a lot of major league coaching experience and can make decisions quickly, while assessing the outcome of the decisions before doing so.

Thanks Grady, It's been quite a ride. I've always had issues with Grady's Field Managing abilities but I've never questioned his skill in getting his players to overachieve and that should not be ignored when looking back at his tenure. The decision in my mind was made before game 7 and although this will allow us to begin yet another chapter in Red Sox history, unlike in past years I have immense faith in management that they will find the perfect candidate for what is a very very difficult job. Good Luck in your search sirs and I'd like to submit my personal favorite for consideration......Jim Leyland!!!
