After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Page 41 The one thing the Sox had over teams like the Yankees this year was team chemistry. Firing Little is a bad move and sends the wrong signals. It took Boston 17 years to reach 95 wins since the last time they did it. This is the beginning of another drought. An avid Boston fan originally from Boston! Robert, Washington DC The Sox are making the right move. What concerns me is that my car is parked in the Kenmore Square area. Should I be concerned about some Red Sox punk flipping my car over and kicking the windows in? Jack, Boston My cat would taken out Pedro in Game 7 - enough said! See ya (you loser) Grady Little! Michael, Winthrop Remy for manager? Why not Joe Castiglione? Lee, Brookline Grady was a nice guy, but made poor decisions. I was going crazy when he kept putting in Damien Jackson over Walker who was one of the only players hitting. The decision in Game 7 was worse than 1986. At least in 1986 we had one more game. I hope the new manager uses Pedro as a closer like Eckersley was. It will prolong his career and it would be lights out every time he comes out fresh...... Douglas, Peabody The boys in the front office goofed on this one, as bad as they viewed Grady's decision with Pedro. O.K., I'm sure Herr George is not a happy camper with certain ellements of his staff. I'd love to see Joe and Don sitting side by side in the Sox dugout! Al, Glens Falls, N.Y. I hope Grady is well received when some day he returns to Fenway. For all he brought Sox fans this season, he would deserve a strong, positive reception. John, Boston So many people don't seem to get it. Grady made bad decisions continously throughout his tenure. He seemed to have no idea how to use his relievers. He would put poor relievers in tight games, and reserve his good ones for blowouts. He would bench two starters for games in Yankee Stadium (tell me you don't remember that???). He gets a lot of credit for protecting players from the Boston media and fans, but he failed miserably in that regard for B-H Kim - instead showing no confidence in him even when he was pitching well. He would fail to pinch-hit when it really made sense, and pinch-hit in other situations, even though that caused the opposition to pull an ineffective reliever and put in a fresh one. Watching Grady was a constantly frustrating experience. Get someone who uses his head. Phil, Harrisonburg, VA Grady Little has been a tremendous asset to the Boston Red Sox and the Boston community. He is a gentleman, humble, self-effacing. He showed an ability to maintain team unity despite the ego's of Pedro, Manny, and others. Grady earned respect from these players and gave it in return. Grady handled the tough Boston Press with ease. I can think of no manager in Boston Red Sox history that I would rather see lead this team to a World Championship. The bottom line in Baseball, ultimately is wins. Boston Red Sox fans and players deserve a manager that can make the most fundemental of decisions every inning, every game, every year. When marginal fans watch Oakland batters pound John Burkett, in an elimination game, and wonder where the hook is, how can the man in charge not see the same thing. Baseball strategy is not an exact science and many moves can be second guessed. Leaving Pedro in was a cardinal sin and cannot and should not be defended. Pedro has shown he is not the same Pitcher after 100 pitches that he is before 100. If there were no hot Pitchers in the Bullpen, Grady is still the Manager. Mike Timlin, Alan Embree and Scott Williamson were all available to record the final five outs. Would they have done the job? We will never know. A good manager, any manager, should always put their team in the best position to win a game. If those relievers lost the lead, the Boston fans could at least go through the off-season knowing we lost with our best chance. Good Luck Grady Little. You are a great man and I hope your two years here in Boston were enjoyable. Bill from Newton. Bill, Newton Boo! Hiss! I'm new to the Red Sox Nation and cannot but worry about the message this sends to the next manager and the players. I liked the feeling of this team and the way they worked together. A coach is a key part of that. Think that the real problem was that Little was probably closer to the players than the management. Little had an office politices problem not a baseball problem. Too bad.
