So long, Grady

After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

I thought Grady did a great job keeping the guys together. Hats off to Grady for that. Ultimately though the Sox made the right move b/c the don't have 100% faith in the guy and they need a manager who they can trust in tough field management situations. I say lets bring in Bill Buckner as thew skipper.

Here is a guy who played with his gut not his head. It worked sometimes, it didn't work sometimes. Bottom line is, it didn't work when it counted most. Little made a number of odd pitching decisions late in games the past 2 years, especially the relying on of Kim, an erratic pitcher. Maybe it was attributed to the cards he was dealt. Or maybe the fact that he didn't take play by the stats...In any case, here we have a good man with a good heart who was without a doubt an excellent people person, handling many delicate egos on this club with flair but who was ultimately in over his head in the decision making department...He should make a decent assistant.

I am a 48 year old Coast Guard officer from Massachusetts who attended Game 7 of the World Series in 1967 and 1975. This loss left me depressed for 2 days, but the bottom line is that Sox needed to win 2 of 3 in Fenway before they returned to the Bronx if they wanted a chance. Gradfy Little made an error in judgement. He managed with his heart rather than his brain. Pedro should have been given the hook just as fast as Tim Wakefield did in his second ALCS win right after a runner reached base in the seventh. Grady Little brought the club together, and finding someone else to reconstitute that chemistry will be difficult. He will be missed. Bring on Jerry Remy!!!

If Grady was intimidated by Pedro Martinez as appears to be the case then he had to go. Regardless, Pedro has definitely got to go. And Don Zimmer should be the next coach. Maybe he could convince his friend Andy Pettite to come along.

It is plain to see that the forsight of the new ownership is no better than that of the former owners! You fire a man who did a first class job because of one mistake! What a joke.

i think its stupid that little is getting fired. i mean...he took the team a long way and almost made it...i think they should stick with him!!!!!!

Terrible decision. The first couple of paragraphs of Gordon Edes' 10/27 column sums it up - if you want to manage by stats, just put the stat man in the dugout. If baseball were all about stats, explain how Florida beats the Cubs, the Giants, and the Yankees. Replacement: what's Dwight Evans up to these days? He'd have the respect of the fans, the players, and at least through the first inning in April, the front office.

sorry grady, if you had only enough balls to take in from pedro and go with Timln and Embree 8th, Williamson 9th. You deserve this firing just for that because my kid sister could have realized that pedro was done after 7. I just hope the Red Sox management makes a good decision on who will be the next manager because in Boston it is easy to let the season get away during the long summer.

I was a supporter of Grady Little until the top of the 8th inning in the Yankee series. There is no rational explanation for Grady's decision. His mistake ranks right up there with Buckner's error and taking Willoughby out of the game as one of the greatest mistakes in Red Sox History. We were 6 outs away from a World Series that we could have won. Why would anyone suddenly change their standards of management, especially considering that Pedro was very lucky to have gotten out of the 7th without more damage? His decision will haunt me for the rest of my life. I'm glad that he is gone.
