So long, Grady

After two years, 188 regular season wins, and a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Red Sox have parted ways with Grady Little. Are the Sox making the right move? Who should get his job?

Should have kept him. Players loved him and worked hard for him. Grady kept clubhouse together and protected players. Is it a coincidence that the Sox team this year was probably the most cohesive Sox team ever? (i.e., no "30 cabs for 30 players"). Sure, some of the players helped to make that so. But, I think the manager deserves a lot of credit. This was the most loved Sox teams since the 60's and 70's. Getting rid of Grady doesn't make sense.

Hopefully this is the right move. Grady was a good guy, who seemed to maintain the team chemistry quite well, but in the end, one decision cost him, and the team dearly. Grady is a good guy, and hopefully he'll find a good team to manage elsewhere. Go Sox, and good luck to Grady!

He should be brought up on charges for being a moron. His next coaching job will be farm league.

If the Red Sox management thinks statistics are the end-all, how do they explain having the 17-17 Beckett come up big in the World Series. Sure, Grady made some mistakes but I'm not sure he should have been let go. While sports is big business I think a little too much business went into making this decision. We'll see how it turns out.

sad to see him go as far as his ability to keep everyone happy, but will not miss his poor judgement... as long as our next manager is respectable and has th respect of the teamates- and has a better sense of judgement than I will welcome the change. What is the possiblity of getting all 3 of those qualities in a manager, though? i will not hold my breath.

Shame on the Globe for presenting the poll choices as either Little should be fired for catering to his stars and "letting Pedro decide" or Little should not be fired. Little should be fired for making bad decisions. He did not cater to stars. By all accounts, he was great for the clubhouse. But a manager can't make decisions that repeatedly cause his team to lose games that they should win. Game 7 was just the most painful example. Little repeatedly put players into situations where they were less likely to succeed precisely because he did not know/care about the numbers. The GM got LIttleseveral relievers who had been lights out for other teams -- Kim, Williamson, Embree, Sauerbeck. Little also dispensed with Chad Fox before he went on to success in Florida. But here, they struggled. In part, it might be the new league or the catchers learning to call their games. But it also must be thought to be Little and his team. It was a great year for the Red Sox, but they can't afford to have a manager who gives away four or five games a year because he figures they can win tomorrow. Especially in the playoffs.

Let's put it this way: My 75 year old mother knows nothing about baseball and even she was wondering aloud why Petey was still in the game when he was getting torched by the Yankees. End of story. If an elderly woman with no clue about baseball could make the right call, that's grounds for dismissal. Overall, seemed like a genuinely nice guy, but that -- obviously -- doesn't guarantee success.

COWBOY UP ! Who really cares about this stuff anyway...LOSERS !

Grady could not win.........if he had pulled Pedro in the eighth, we would have been second guessing that decision as well.

To Grady: I've been a fan for fifty years, and I believe that this is among the dumbest decision that I can recollect. Thank you for your 188 wins, your gracious, humble spirit and the way you made them all believe in a team concept.
